Headlight Restoration Do It Yourself DISASTER

Yes, this headlight restoration video shows you how to do it yourself. But now, this DIY headlight restoration is NOT recommended for any of our Calgary car owners. Here’s why the video above is a headlight restoration disaster waiting to happen.

It’s starts with the DIY ingredients.

Using the DIY headlight restoration ingredients in the video above on a Lexus, BMW, Pickup, or Range Rover is a bad idea:

Lemon Juice and Baking Soda: These are both acidic and abrasive. Headlights are made of polycarbonate plastic, which is susceptible to scratching from abrasive materials and clouding from acidic substances. This will worsen the headlight condition and make them appear more foggy over time.

Toothpaste: Most toothpastes contain abrasives like aluminum oxide or silicon dioxide, which can cause tiny scratches on the plastic headlight lens. These scratches will scatter light and make the headlights appear dull.

Bar Soap and Scouring Pad: Bar soap, especially with any grit in it, can also be abrasive. The scouring pad is definitely too rough for headlight plastic and will leave behind scratches.

High-quality cars like Off-Road Pickups, Lexus, BMW, and Range Rover deserve headlight lenses that are clear and functional for optimal nighttime visibility. These DIY methods can permanently damage the headlight lenses and compromise safety.
